PRO FINE ART PRINTING & EARLY CATALOGUING
Between 2013 and 2019, I co-founded & managed a specialized fine-art printing facility in Pointe-Saint-Charles, where I lived. This period was characterized by a deep immersion into the mechanics of the image. My role involved the installation of the studio infrastructure & the execution of high-end, large-format prints for professional artists & institutional clients.
CASE STUDY: ANDRE FOURNELLE I delivered a highly saturated, large-format monochromatic fusion (or “paint” print) on translucent fabric for artist & sculptor André Fournelle. This bespoke technique was developed specifically to meet the saturated light-refraction requirements of this triptych, later exhibited at Salon B -- Alfred Dallaire Memoria Gallery, 4231 Blvd St-Laurent [A. Fournelle: Artiste en Marche. Souvenirs de Soleils Anciens, Feb. 13th 2019]. Photos: in-production + vernissage.
MATERIAL R&D + PROPRIETARY SPARKLED INKS In collaboration with female sculptors from Atelier La Coulée, I initiated rigorous research & experimentations with “sparkled” ink & micro- encapsulation techniques. The process consists in embedding very fine mineral or metallic dusts (the sparkles) atop fine prints without damaging their rendering or compromising archival integrity. Methodology: This challenging, time-consuming technique moved beyond standard digital output, utilizing custom-made recipes & finely tuned layers of archival varnishes. These experiments were documented in a formal log, calibrating the spray-density of metal dusts to achieve visual microdynamics—light refraction effects that shift according to the viewer’s angle and external lighting conditions. Conceptual Integration: Micro-bridging the gap between flat photography and three-dimensional, sculptural materiality, the sparkles stood as a metaphor for ‘constellations’, ‘visibility/disappearance’, & ‘alienation effect’ (Verfremdungseffekt) —notions I then creatively grappled with. Photos: hours of experimentation & fun at Atelier La Coulée (B7), with Eva-Loam Pham, Athanasia Blounas, MC Pastorel & my assistant Boris Milovich.
